Crestron IR control Of HS17-500
I two set top boxes that I need to control via IR from a Crestron processor. When I went to test I have no IR control of the set top box. I can't seem to find a control API to set the boxes up.

What DVR/Receiver model number?
All DirecTV boxes use the same infrared remote codes.

Oh, HS17 is an anomaly. It's a Genie Server with no connection to your TV. It's the Mini Genie client that needs to be controlled by your Crestron.

Right. The mini Client receivers are what connect to your TV and need to be controlled with an IR remote, not the HS17 Server. All DirecTV receivers use the same IR code. Your Crestron should be able to handle that.

Hello All,
I threw in an IR Driver to test. I can see the emitter flash, receiver still not responding. I noticed that these are RF remotes is there a setting somewhere I need to check for? I assumed that they'd just work like normal.

Hello, we understand how remote functionality is an important component of using your DIRECTV service.
So, that we can better assist you, please clarify whether you're programming your RF remotes or inquiring something else related.

They are trying to control their mini in IR with a device that is not a DTV remote.

What model box is the Crestron trying to control?
All DirecTV boxes should respond to infrared remote commands.
Are you sure you're using the proper DirecTV command set with your Crestron?

As posted, all directv boxes respond to the same IR code set. This does mean that if the boxes are in the same room they will both respond to commands, which means the only way tyo control two boxes in the same room is to use RF not IR.
You should go to the various crestron forums to find other people doing this.

I’m not worried about controlling the boxes separately. I’ll put two separate buds on it. I’m m accomplished on the Crestron side. I was using a module for the HR24 series. Like I said I saw the bud fire off but the receiver didn’t respond.

Thanks for reaching out @maxhedrum, we're happy to assist with your DIRECTV receivers. It may help to make sure your receivers are set up to work in IR mode:
1. Press MENU on the remote.
2. Select Settings, then Remote Control.
3. Select IR/RF Setup.
4 .If currently in RF mode, change to IR.
5. Select Continue.
6. Press the Exit button.
Please let us know if this helps.

There are reports over the years of some of the buds being too powerful for some directv boxes. Have you used these before for directv? Are they the type where you can adjust the power level? All I can suggest is that you go to the crestron forums and search for solutions. Or to the web site for the particular buds you are using.
If it's this problem there isn't anything direct can do about it.

You can try putting a piece of blue painters tape over the IR port on the DTV receiver, this was done when the first LCD TVs came out as the back lights put out IR that overwhelmed them.
