Difference bewteen whole home DVR and DVR in each room? Call customer service and keep getting different answers.

I am a new customer who enrolled in April this year before the whole home DVR was available.  I currently have 1 HD Receiver and 1 HD DVR Receiver.  I am looking to add an additional receiver in a 3rd room.  However, I am also trying to figure out if it should be a DVR receiver or do the Whole Room. I was told on the phone that the Whole Room Package does not allow two rooms to watch pre-recorded shows at the same time.  But online, I am told it is possible.  What is the best way to go, Purchase an additonal receiver with DVR or just an HD receiver plus Whole Home. Also any way to get around the $200 installation fee since this option wasn't even available in April?

I am quite dumb with technology, so any insight would be great.

A DVR can only stream a program to one other receiver at a time. If you have one DVR and two other receivers, you can't watch a recording on both remote receivers at the same time. You can watch one on the DVR itself and one on one or the other of the remote receivers. Depending on your viewing habits this means that you might want to get two DVRs or that you may just need to arrange the receivers differently (i.e., put the DVR in a different room). You should talk to DirecTV about costs... you may get a better deal if you add a receiver at the same time as the upgrade and you may get a better deal since it has been 6 months since the original installation.... I'm not sure how long the extra charge for recent new customers is supposed to last.  The normal cost of the WHDVR upgrade is $99 plus $49 for installation.

Keep in mind that more DVR's always gives you more flexibility, and adding Whole Home even if you have multiple DVR's is even better.  In our house we have three DVR's plus Whole Home so we can pretty well watch anything anywhere anytime.
