Direct TV will not let me install a system myself??

I really would like to get Direct TV, but I want to install everything my self, because I want it installed a specific way, and will tie up technician for multiple days. 

My initial contact with Direct TV over the phone resulted in them saying that a tech would come out and drop off the equipment and I could do the installation myself.  OK did I really did not understant why a tech would have to drop it off rather than them just mail it to me, but what ever.  So the tech shows up at my home today, and refuses to drop anything off, he has to install it.... not what I wanted.  So now I call up Direct TV and was told that they no longer allow customer installs... Come on people get your act together....
