directv and lightning

just had some lightning in the area and once again directv went into the dreaded "satellite search" mode. Fortunately I have been through this pain before and it appears the root problem is a fried BBC. Last time, I took a near hit and paid the $75 to have the repairman tell me I needed new receivers (yes, two of them went out!) .. Got the new receivers, and the new DVR still did not work ... BECAUSE THEY DID NOT SEND ALONG NEW BBCs!
Eventually begged for replacement BBCs from the repairman and everything was fine...until lightning came through the area again.

This time, after the strike (which was not that near to the house) I immediately took hold of the BBCs and sure enough one of them was pretty hot. Disconnected the BBCs and got one satellite back. So now I'm off to the repairman to get yet another BBC.

Is there any way to put surge protectors on the line to protect them or (B) does directv just have bad BBCs that need to be redesigned?
