Directv box shut off while i was watching it, wont turn back on

While watching tv, my box shut off and will not turn back on. tv and receiver both stayed on but directv box shut off, and all are plugged into the same power strip. I can hear a fan, i believe, running but I have no lights on the front of the receiver and cannot get it to turn on. I have tried unplugging, i have tried the reset button with neither of them helping the problem. Anyone have any idea how to fix this or am i going to need a new box? My othe reciever is still working but that is an old old box, the newer one that is a dvr is the one thats not working....
