Directv Gemini disconnects from Genie 2
Hi,
Recently I got the new Gemini box from Directv and added the box to the Genie 2. Before I used to have C41 wireless mini gini and had 0 disconnections. Since I got the Gemini, I've had about 16. It loses the connection to the Genie 2 and then reconnects back in about a minute. Does anyone experiencing the same issue? My broadband is 500MB and there are no issues there. Thank you.

Could be they use 5G to be able to stream 4K to the C71KW Gemini.

very possible.... would make sense... what is weird is the 5 gig wifi connection between the Gemini and the Geni Mini..... weird, and also that my Mini is connected both to the Gemini and the Geni 2.... all one big happy family ha ha!
Working great now, all stuttering/stalling gone...

I just cannot believe that I am the only one that has that issue. The Gemini was positioned about less than 10 inches from the Genie 2, and now I moved it about 4ft. from it. We will see. However, I still think that this is weird. I just do not see how the WiFi of the Gemini will be the cause for the disconnect. Those are two completely different networks used for different connections. However, if this is an issue, then DirecTV should have tried it before they released it. I mean at the end of the day is a multi billion $ company. One person (on a different forum) suggested to move the box a little away from the Genie 2, so we will see.

My Genie 2 is about 1.5 foot from the Gemini, moving further apart and closer made no difference when i was having problems.
In the settings/info, what does it say about the wifi signal strength? You can see both these readings from the Gemini and the Genie 2

If the SWM splitter is that close to the HS17 then wired maybe a better option, all you need is a DECABB with either the USB or power brick then connect it to the SWM splitter then run Ethernet cable to the C71KW Gemini and power it up.

I hope I don't derail this thread, but toes the DECA/DECABB just put ethernet on the coax and vice versa? If that is so, is it using MoCA on the coax? The more I learn, the more ways these things seem to be able to network together.

Depends on the install. The Genie if connected to the internet with either WiFi or Ethernet cable will put it on the coax and then what DTV calls a Connected Home Adapter(DECA with no power supply as it is powered by the receiver) strips it off to be used by the receivers that don't have the DECA built in H/HR23 and lower models. Before the Genies came out they used what is called a DECABB (DECA with a power supply) that connected to the router to put the internet on the coax. DECA = DTV Ethernet over Coax Adapter AKA MoCA. AFAIK the C71KW doesn't provide power so you have to use a DECABB.

For what is worth...quick update. I turned off the Internet to the Genie 2 and to the Gemini and the Gemini still lost connection to the Genie 2. While this was happening the green light on the Gemini front panel blinks red for couple of seconds. Then the signal came on...until the next time. With that said, I am eliminating that my Internet could cause the problem. The next thing that I need to try is to use the DECA and then turn the Internet off and see if that is going to make any difference.
Under "Device Settings", "Client Video Network" will show the number of disconnections. However, when I check the "Genie 2 Info, and then under Client Locations, the unit shows 0 disconnections. That makes me thing that the actual disconnection showed under the Gemini box are actually Reboots and not real disconnections.
One thing left is that the Gemini is plugged in to a surge protector and not directly in the wall. I wonder if I have to plug it there.
Thank you all for reading my "small violin" problem, but I really like this box and I want to make it work.

So, you might have read some of my posts about my initial installation of a Genie 2, Gemini and Genie Mini. The Gemini stuttered and jerked until I connected it to my home wifi, and the problem stopped. I also had issues with the wireless Mini until I had the DECA and the Mini was connected to my Wi-Fi. I was instantly chastised, but my system has worked very well.
It seems to me that the networking between the Genie and Clients is not completely understood here, and that it is not as simple as purveyed. I've also seen the system change WiFi connections.
I'm presently researching how the DECA works, since it has Ethernet, WiFi and a coax connection to the LNA.. Clearly it can get MoCA communications from the Genie 2 through the coax, but would it be better to hardwire it to the client or use the wifi?
Anyway, still in the experimentation and information gathering phase.

I have to agree that what directv is selling here is not ready for primetime. it seems the connectivity issues with the geminis seems to get worse over time, from a couple of disconnections a day to multiple disconnections within a week.

I’m certified in network/Internet security and for the life of me I can’t get this system too work properly 100% of the time. I have had technicians out here literally a dozen times until they finally just gave me three Gemini boxes and a genie two system but I’m still having the same issues as a few people are mentioning here with my signal being lost or I will pause something and then leave the room and come back and it’s not only unpaused but I lost my entire buffer or I will wake up in the morning and the system says it’s trying to find the receiver. I’m trying to switch from wireless to wired which you would think would be straight forward Ethernet cables to a switch but not working. I’m not understanding the need to connect coax to ethernet to connect the boxes together. Why can’t I just plug it into the switch?

You will not going to be able to understand it. Is a BOX full of bugs, not ready for primetime. Most likely is a software issue, that they cannot figure out how to fix. The wired option most likely will not solve the problem...at least it did not fix it for me.
It has been 6 months for me. The Genie 2 and the Gemini both have recent updates. No changes of behaviour!! For example, today the Gemini box has randomly rebooted twice. Just no apparent reason...all of a sudden DirecTV logo shows up and it loads. However, the Genie 2 both lights are Green and the Gemini box does not lose connection with the tower. Just REBOOTS randomly.

DIRECTV people are going to hate me for saying this here but call and ask for the retention department or tell them you want to cancel your service and then whenever you get someone explain to them the issues you are having, and they most likely will give you a credit on your account. I’ve been fighting with this for over three months, two of those months I was living out of state, and my parents had to keep coming to my house so this has been a huge nightmare for me. When it works, I love it but yeah. Ty for the prompt reply, I’m going to try a few things to see if I can get it to work but unfortunately I gave the DECA back to the installer because I didn’t think I needed it oof. I’m not expecting wired to fix the problem as much as trying to get rid of as many wireless devices as possible fyi.

I actually have an update, I was outside reading all of this, after factory resetting my Gemini and I have it plugged directly into the same switch my genie two is plugged into, and somehow it got through the set up and everything is connected. Fingers crossed it works
