DirecTV Genie Remote barely works with new Samsung TV

I switched to a new Samsung TV (Q72D Series - 4K UHD QLED LCD TV) from an older one. My Genie remote barely works. Power on/off works, and the channel up/down, but not much else. Briefly the numbers will work and then they stop. The volume works that is paired with a sound bar.

I reset the receiver, I reconnected the HDMI set up to the TV, I tried punching buttons to 'reset' or pair the remote, but it doesn't respond. I'm out of ideas.

This TV is much more 'smart' than our older one and I'm not sure if there is something I need to do with the Samsung settings, I looked but couldn't find anything.

Any help would be appreciated!

DTV remotes are only suppose to turn on/off the TV and control the volume, channel up/down is done by the DTV receiver.  You may need to reprogram the DTV remote to add the TV.

It turns out it wasn't the remote - the Samsung remote was also doing it when we configured it to work with Directv. The app on the phone though, worked fine. So it was some sort of interference. I did the IR/RF reset a bunch of times, and a few other things and gave up. The next day, it worked! Not sure what it ultimately was that fixed it, but I hope it stays that way.
