DirecTV Plus HDDVR HR20/700 won't reset.
Earlier today I tried finding the antenna connector on the back so I could record off the air channels not carried by DirecTV. I couldn't find it. Later, when I returned home, the Tv displayed No Signal on the screen. I pushed the little button behind the access door, but halfway though the restart process the screen goes blank and displays No Signal. I pushed that button many times, even unplugged the box a few times, but the reset process always stopped about halfway through. Then, it seemed to finally complete the proccess, only to go blank after rebuilding the scheduler. Any ideas how I can get the box to reset? myrnaf

What brand/model HDTV do you have?
How is your HR20 connected to that HDTV?
Are you getting audio once the DVR has completed its reset process?
After the HR20 completes it reset process, try pressing the DVR's front panel RESolution button. I suspect your TV is getting a video resolution that it can't handle, causing the video to blank. If some of the Resolutions settings (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i) don't produce video, then you'll need to uncheck those settings in the DVR's HDTV Setup Menu.

The TV is a 50 in. LG plasma, connected to the TV with HDMI cable.
Anyway, I spent a good part of Sunday trying to reset the DVR, untill finally, I noticed that the blue start up screen said "Hello Your DirecTV Is Siarting Up". In the previous attempts to reset the HR20/700, I never saw it say "Hello". Or "Please". But, when it did, it reset normally, It didn't stop midway in the reset process like the other times and it finished like it should. All seems fine now.
But, why did it only reset after the Hello message? And, why did it take so many attempts before the screen said Hello?
I want to connect an external antenna because the HR20/700 has two ATSC-OTA tunners, and I want to record shows on local subchannels not carried by DirecTV. But, I also don't want to do
anything to cause the box to go blank, to need to be reset again. Maybe I connected the antenna to the wrong connector? Or, could it be something else?
Thanks. myrnaf

I suspect your DVR is actually resetting just fine, but you're not seeing the DVR display while it's resetting. That usually caused by an HDMI incompatibility with certain video resolutions. Some HDTVs, for example, cannot display 480i resolution using their HDMI input. Your LG might be that way. So you're not seeing the bootup displays until the DVR completes and switches to 720p or 1080i. That's really nothing much to worry about during resetting. But you'll want to be sure that "480i" is unchecked in the HDDVR's HDTV Setup Menu.
As far as connecting your Off Air Antenna to the wrong connector ....
There's not too much to go wrong. There are only three coax connectors on the back of the HR20. Two are for the Satellite INPUT (SAT1, SAT2), and one is for the Off Air ANT.
