DIRECTV Whole Home

So I see this service is finally ubiquitous. How can I get it? What do I ask for? What do I need?

Read the sticky post at the top of this page.  If you have two or more HD receivers, one of which is a HD DVR, call Directv and request the Whole Home installation.

Thank you!! I have another question you can probably answer. I'm reading complaints about people who did have the MRV service before, and are now being told they need a new installation? Can you tell me what the difference is and tell me all the equipment involved?? I do have one HD receiver and another HD-DVR. Should I ask for what the beta testers had? What did they have that was so different and makes everything so confusing now?

MRV was just launched nationally, so folks that had it previously were considered "beta testers" and had to use their own network hardware to connect the DVRs/Receivers together.  Now that it's officially launched, DirecTV is only officially supporting their new DECA networking that uses the existing satellite coax cable to network the DVRs/Receivers together.  But if it was working acceptable during the beta testing, DirecTV will enable MRV as "unsupported".  Either way, it costs $3/mo.

They're offering some sweet deals to upgrade to full DECA networking for ~$150 if that's what you want.

The only confusion is that DirecTV is making it difficult to add MRV as "unsupported" when folks want to continue using their own networking gear.  They would much rather provided the DECA upgrades and have every customer using a known, supportable networking architecture.  They could have easily said "everyone MUST use DECA", but they chose to allow unsupported networking architectures.

So, unless your fully prepared to provide your own networking equipment, your best bet is take advantage of the DECA upgrade deal.
