dish and switch necessary for WHDVR
I currently have 5 lnb dish installed with 4 Ka/Ku outputs run into an HD 16 way multiswitch cascaded into another HD 8 way multiswitch. This also cascades into a Spaun SD multiswitch to send output to SD locations in house. Obviously, lots of receivers, most are newer, but some are legacy SD receivers. If I want to install WHDVR, which components will need to be changed? I also need to preserve signal to some legacy receivers that cannot be easily upgraded because of access/rack issues. Can I still use legacy receivers if I need to change/upgrade the switches? Does the dish need to change?
Thanx

No, the dish will not need to be changed, but the multiswitches are paper weights. The Whole Home system uses SWM so you'll need a SWM16 or thereabouts, That will handle 16 HD tuners plus several legacy units (which will not participate in Whole Home). If you sign up you'll get the worlds biggest bargain, because Directv charges a flat price for whole home. Less than the SWM16 alone.

Thanx for your help. Just to clarify, as I saw reference to need for a particular model of SD receiver on another post, the SWM 16 will allow me to keep whatever legacy receivers I need to. However, the older receivers will simply be excluded from Whole Home.?
Again, thanx for your clarification.

Yes. Legacy units cannot participate in Whole Home under any circumstances as they are not network capable, nor are they compatible with SWM. Only current model HD DVR's and receivers can participate. The legacy ports on a SWM16 multiswitch are pure dish feeds so the legacy units will see the same signal they currently do. You'll need to make sure the CSR that takes your order understands that you wish to keep specific units or otherwise they'll update them all to SWM capability. I believe there are 6 legacy ports on the SWM16. If that is not enough, it's possible to connect your existing Zinwell WB616 multiswitch to the mix, but that might be a DIY project after the SWM is installed and working. Here is a wiring diagram for a SWM8 and a WB68, the SWM16 and WB616 would be done in a similar fashion.

How many actual SWiM compatible receivers do/will you have and how many SWiM tuners (2 per DVR, 1 for non-DVRs)? If you have fewer than 9 SWiM tuners, you may have a problem getting them to install a SWM16 and your installation sounds like it is beyond the skill levels of the average tech.
