Disturbed by install options given to me by installer...

We currently have 3 receivers - all purchased through Directv. One is an HD-DVR, one is HD and one is just a standard box. We ordered an upgrade for the standard box to HD-DVR and purchased a new HDTV to go with it. When the installer came out he told me that in order to install the second line to the DVR so we can watch and record, he would have to drill holes in the side of the house and the garage to run the line and the cable itself would be left laying exposed on the floor in my laundry room and family room. As you can imagine, this isn't acceptable. So I asked him about the new switch others have that allow the one line to be used with a DVR in place of running a second line. He said there are such things but Directv has to approve the install so I needed to call them. Then he said it was only for new installs.

So I sent him away and called Directv. They told me that there is indeed such technology and they have it. But she can't place an order for it. She said I could buy one (couldn't tell me how much nor could she order it for me or explain exactly what I needed). But they wouldn't order it for me. She didn't seem to have a problem with wired being installed just laying around the house or choosing the option of drilling holes in the side of my house over an interior switch. In fact she wouldn't help me with options at all. All she would do is reschedule the installation. Now after having been with Directv since they were Primestar, my husband is thinking we need to just ditch them completely. I'd rather not but I'm running out of options. What can I do to get a more sensible approach to this problem?

Thank you
Heather
