Does an HR24 automatically record the last 30 min of the channel it's on?

I got an HR24 and it's obviously different than a DirecTivo SD-DVR40.

The SD-DVR40 would automatically record 30 min. of each tuner (input).  So if Tuner 1 was on Channel 206 (ESPN) and Tuner 2 was on Channel 501 (HBO), both channels would have the last 30 min of the show recorded.  I could rewind back to the last 30 min if I was on Tuner 1, then I could switch to Tuner 2 and watch the last 30 of whatever was being screened on Tuner 2.

Unless I explicitly recorded the show, the recording window was a rolling one and would only record the last 30 min.  And if I changed the channel on Tuner 2 to 556, the rolling recording was discarded and the SD-DVR40 would start a new rolling recording for the new channel.

However, on the HR24, this doesn't happen on the Tuner that I'm not currently watching.  If I had Tuner 1 on Channel 206 and Tuner 2 on Channel 501 and I was watching Channel 206, the HR24 would be recording the last 30 min.  But Tuner 2 is not recording the last 30 min of its channel.  If I switch channels by pressing the Down button, the HR24 displays a message saying that it would start recording on the new channel (on Tuner 2).

Is there a way for me to configure the HR24 so that I can make it automatically record the last 30 min on both Tuners, even on the one that I am not currently watching?

Only if you use double play that will buffer an hour and a half and will end after 2 hours. To start double play select channel 1 then press the down arrow double play started then select channel 2 then use the down arrow to toggle between them.

You really had an old receiver. I had a DirecTivo a very long time ago as my first dvr. Yes those DirecTivos had both tuners active, the HR series of dvr’snever has. The second tuner, as noted, is only active if a recording is scheduled or double play is enabled and also as noted, the buffer is 90 minutes, not 30.

Is there a way to automatically have the HR24 receiver automatically start Doubleplay without me having to manually turn it on?

I don't understand why DirecTV couldn't just make Doubleplay automatically record on any active channel for 30 min.
