Double Play seemed to kill my TV?
I have a HR20 and saw the double play option was now there. I have it connected to an Vizio L32 (2006) via HDMI. When I initiated the feature, I got the options on the screen, then I picked the 2nd channel and therein lies the problem...as the screen went to a purplish haze and reset to what looked like the 720p setting and then it looked like the TV powered off...
so thinking just like some things in the past I reset the DVR. the screen came up again when the dvr started showing signal, while booting, purplish, and turned off...
so it never keeps signal...After that I notice nothing on the vizio remote works except the power and menu buttons...so I go to the TV, same thing. it seems like toast. when the menu is up for the default time, I can see what look like garbled characters on the screen besides some of the text. And the one tint led that is normally yellow and 0-100 seems to be over 100 and going to the line underneath.
I have connected an old CRT TV to it and the DVR appears to be normal. (not using HDMI though as I have no other HDMI TV's) Just the normal AV cables.
Is this just an incredible coincidence? Maybe...But it doesn't seem like it. I would just hate for others to lose a TV if it was somehow a problem.
I talked to Vizio and they couldn't have me do anything that cleared it.
Directv didn't have any ideas, although I spent 30 minutes on the phone. They are sending a tech out next week to look at it. they wont be able to do anything to the TV but I am really not sure what they will do to "check" the DVR unless they check voltage output from it on HDMI.
They said that depending on that, I might be able to try a damage claim. I am not looking for a freebie or handout...Just to determine the cause. And if somehow it was related, yes some kind of compensation. I just don't know that it can be proven.
