Doubleplay has me stuck in 2 channels
Doubleplay has been activated, possibly accidentally, and I can't shut if off. You are supposed to be able to type in another channel number or select from the guide to change channels, but that doesn't work. I get a message screen that tells me I have to stop one or the other current doubleplay channels. When I click on STOP, nothing happens. I cannot stop the recording and I cannot change channels.
It does not stop recording after 2 hours on non-use as it claims it will.
I have reset the receiver twice using the red button next to the card.
I have reset the receiver twice but disconnecting it from power for 1 minute and then plugging it back in.
I have tried walking away from it for 24 hours.
It is stuck on two doubleplay channels, it will not reset and it will not allow changing channels by any technique.
I've tons of recorded stuff, so I'm saving a drive reformat or getting a new receiver as a last resort.
Has anyone had this same problem, did you manage to resolve it without losing all your recorded material?

I think you're overcomplicating Doubleplay. When you don't want to use it any more, simply forget about it. Use the remote and enter any channel number, or open the guide, chose a channel and press select. If you're unable to actually select and tune to a different channel using the system I specified, and a red button reset doesn't allow you to, then you have a broken box.
The only way you'd know that Doubleplay is running is by pressing the down arrow button, and when you do that, it starts Doubleplay anew.

dcd, if I understand the OP correctly, this problem is worse.
It is stuck on two doubleplay channels, it will not reset and it will not allow changing channels by any technique.
Not sure what to suggest beyond a complete "Reset and Clear Everything".

A definite posibility for sure. If he truly cannot change channels and the double play pair survives a red button reset I'd call Directv and request a replacement.

DCD, I appreciate your attempting to assist, but if you aren't going to read the question, please don't bother to reply. I very clearly stated that the channels cannot be changed by any means. I am not over complicating things. I plain and simple can't change the channel, period.
Thanks to the others. I have read all the threads I could find on this and no one has apparently found a solution short replacement or possibly reformatting. My hope was someone more recently may have encountered the problem and found a solution.

Did you read my post or just jump on the opening statement?

I’m having the same issue more than 10 years later.. how to do I disable double play ? Why can’t I press the down arrow twice to disable it and continue flipping through channels. I’m currently stuck on one channel because I pressed down button twice. This is the dumbest feature ever because it assumes I need to be “locked in” to double play for 90 minutes without the option to cancel it. I’m (Edited per community guidelines).

Have you done a red button reset? Double play lasts for 2 hours and you can still change the channels.
