DTV won't swap out a receiver?

I previously had Comcast and was able to set up everything how I wanted, but with DTV, this isn't possible because of the receiver they gave me. With Comcast they gave me two cable boxes, both of which had multiple i/o (hdmi, component, coax), so I was able to hook up everything that needed to be connected. My secondary DTV receiver only has a plug for hdmi, so I am unable to hook up my Slingbox. I am unable to connect it to the main receiver because the power cable will not reach far enough. Regardless, I doubt I would be able to run the additional wires for that hardware because the TV is on furniture that is mounted to the wall (IKEA) and is pretty much impossible to move without disassembling.

I called customer support and they wanted me to shell out $200 for the receiver I wanted when I was able to get this for free through Comcast. I guess I am surprised that they don't have those kinds of receivers available and that the only option is for the customer to upgrade. This is a pretty big letdown and I just changed over from Comcast too. Solutions?

What model Receiver do you have?  Look for the label on the rear panel or behind the front panel access card door.

All HD Receivers/DVRs have HDMI, Component Video, Composite Video, and both analog & digital audio outputs.  The H25 HD Receiver does require a "dongle" to provide Component Video, and you can get one by calling DirecTV.

I doubt that replacing your Receiver would fix your connection issue because all of the HD DVR/Receivers are pretty much identical in this regard.

We get a lot of posts from folks who want to jury rig their working installation who are unhappy that what they want to do isn't possible or will cost money.  Directv doesn't offer much support for jury rigging because a lot of it will degrade from the service.
