DVR has 2 lines but acts like only one..

I just got a DVR, it appears to be Model R15.

It works fine with one line, but I wanted to be able to watch something, while recording some thing else. So I purchased a 3x8 multiswitch to replace my 3x4 and thought I was all set.

When I first plugged the second line in, it didn't see the satellite. I double checked my connections multiple times, then hit the "reset" button, and it appeared to be working. However, I noticed that I still can't record and watch different things simultaneously. I go to show, hit "record" and try to change channels and I get a prompt telling me that if I do so my recording will stop and asking what I want to do.

I've double checked that my configuration is set to "dual" multiple times, though strangely, it has twice changed itself to "single"..

If run the info tests, it tells me the second tuner tests OK, the signal strength test looks pretty similar to tuner 1 (I get a bunch of numbers mostly in the 90's), but I still can't record and watch different shows simultaneously.

I am wondering if the DVR Dirtectv sent me is a lemon, but before I called them, I thought I would post something here, and see if I am missing something...

Thanks for any help
