DVR recording old episodes?

Has anyone had the DVR record episodes that aren’t new even though you have it set for new only? Could it be the guide isn’t right?

The Simpsons and South Park aren’t recording just new episodes. Well they seem to be from the winter/spring but this wouldn’t be their first airing.

Directv's replies on this subject are useless. Let's assume for the moment you set everything up correctly, including selecting the series from the guide NOT the season. The DVR will still record old episodes if the metadata (part of the guide) says its a new episode. This will happen with many repeats because the channel does not modify the metadata to show the episode is not first run. Typically you will find episodes on the main broadcast channels are OK, because they don't often show repeats. Secondary channels not so good.  And in general, if the DVR is unsure whethere an episode is first run, it will record it to be on the safe side.

Same thing happens to me all the time.  Basically given up on trying to correct it.

Thanks for the info.  I set the recording per your instruction on the link and reset the receiver.  Didn't correct the issue.  Just going to live with it.

Some channels when they acquire the rights to a series mark it is first run as it is first run to the channel.

Seems like it should be easy for a computer (that's all a DVR is) to know that it has already recorded Season 2 Episode 4 of Midsomer (Edited per community guidelines). Shouldn't matter what the meta data provided by the channels says, nor which channel its on. Most episodes in a series seem to provide this information for display on the Guide so keeping track of it on a rather large hard drive shouldn't be difficult!
