DVR records black screen

I am normally gone from Sept. 1 until Oct. 15 and set my DVR to record the final episodes of the summer season and the new episodes from the fall series' that I watch.  A year ago, I returned expecting to be able to watch the shows I had missed.  It was not to be.  Almost all of the shows were pixilated and the sound so garbled as to be un-watchable.  I contacted customer service and was told that I should have deleted a bunch of the shows I had saved so that the disc did not approach 50% full.  When the problem had occurred it was approaching the 50% point, so I did as told and the DVR worked fine again.  I feel it is kind of ridiculous that you can only use half of the unit's capacity with any reliability.

So, this year before I left town, I made sure there was plenty of space  available and that there were no time conflicts on the shows I had set to record.  When I returned home,  I checked my Playlist and everything showed up as recorded.   Great, I thought, but was sorely disappointed.  All of the final shows of the summer series' were just a black screen with no sound, except for a couple that had sound.  The same thing happened to the premier episodes of the fall series.  Then it started recording just fine.  Any ideas as to what happened?

A couple of ideas.  If you'll post back the signal strengths for BOTH tuners and we can go from there.

You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength".  Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between both DVR tuners.  If you have a DVR it's important to check BOTH satellite tuners.

Fill in your readings for each tuner on the new post you create, using the example below as a guide. (The example below is only an example and not a form that will appear in your post unless you "cut" and "paste" it.)

Satellite transponders (32 total at 101º)

[Most of your standard definition channels are beamed from 101ºW]
