Eliminating partial recordings

If you've watched, say, the first hour of a three-hour recording, is there a way to delete the watched portion to free up space on the DVR? I've looked everywhere and can't find anything on this. Every other DVR service I've ever used has a way to accomplish this.

Nope.  And your last statement really surprises me.  In order to delete a portion of a video on Windows for example, you'd have to load it in movie maker or some other editing program, go through the program and cut it where you wanted.  Hardly a time effective solution.

How many of these partially watched programs do you have?

FYI none of the other models of DVR (Dish, cable, FIOS) that I have used will allow you to do this...

sdwriter,

Sounds like you need to clean out the clutter of some your older recordings. Of course users dcd and texasbrit won't believe I said that since they are both aware that I am guilty of being a HD movie "hoarder" with two HD DVR's each having a 1.5TB eSATA external drive on them(which stay about 80% full on both of them as I archive older movies to DVD:0)

Not really an issue of how many partially watched programs I have. It's not threatening to max out my capacity or anything.

BTW, Cox's digital cable DVRs most definitely have the option of deleting the recording to your current watch point.

Cox's digital cable DVRs definitely has that option. The system my wife had before that did as well, but I can't recall right now who she was with.

I save to DVD often as well. As I mentioned in an earlier reply, I'm not contending with an almost-full playlist or anything. I just would like the option to keep the last 20 minutes of something I need to watch instead of having to keep the additional 100 or so I no longer need, too. As I also mentioned above, Cox DVRs do offer this functionality.

sdwriter,

Seems like a nice capability, but I've been on these forums for about 5 years and your post is the fist I've seen asking about this. Doesn't seem to be on a very universal wish list.......or DirecTV doesn't get very many ex-COX customers:0)
