Equipment slow or no response

Every once in a while (daily and sometimes multiple times in a day) my DVR stops responding. I may be looking for something or fast forward or reversing a recording and it will just stop responding. If I am going fast forward it continues for 30 seconds to several minutes and then control comes back. Sometimes it just freezes and will stay frozen for several minutes and if I do not hit any buttons it will come back after 2 to 3 minutes but sometimes much longer. I have tried refreshing and resetting and neither seems to make any difference. If I try to turn it off that works just fine but if I try to turn it back on and something is recording the DVR/Receiver will not respond at all and will stay off but the recording continues without problems.

I have tried to contact Directv Support but have not been able to. I made an appointment for a call back instead of waiting on hold and when they called I got a recording that this number was no longer in service and to call another number. I called the new number and after dealing with the phone robot was directed to repair where I was told my wait would be more than 10 minutes to reach someone as they were very busy with higher than normal call volume. Very frustrating so I am hoping someone here has an idea to help as I am seriously considering dropping it and going to someone else.

thanks

You can try a search for        clearmybox            that will dump the guide data and other things and it will take a day or 2 to rebuild, any recordings set to record will.

Very old it is the same set I got when I first subscribed. It is a HR23/200.

@chpete2322 the HR24, although an older standalone HD-DVR receiver, still operates fine to this day. Most likely, the hard drive in your HR24 is slowly dying and/or the speed and performance  of it is decreasing as the drive ages.

I can also infer that this is the culprit because the HR24 acts up when it records, thus putting pressure on the hard drive.

You will have to call DIRECTV (number in my greeting below) and let them know that your HR24 died. Tell them to get you another HR24, depending on your current equipment. If you don’t mind, could you list all of your current DIRECTV receiver models? Also, HR24s are hard to come by these days so no guarantees on another one. You’ll need to go through Solid Signal or a similar third-party if you MUST have another HR24.

If they still have any all you will get is an HR24 as a warranty replacement.

Thankyou all for your responses. Shannon02 the clearmybox you mentioned is that on the DVR/Receiver? I looked around a bit but did not find anything that looked like that so if you have a location I can look through you point me to I would appreciate it.

thanks again

Perform a keyword search on the DVR for CLEARMYBOX

The box will reset and rebuild its Guide database. Your recordings will not be deleted.
