Error 615

No rain or bad weather when Friday evening DirecTV stopped working. The main receiver (H17-500) tower green light was blinking. Rebooted and it worked about an hour and same thing happened but this time rebooting didn't help nor did all the other old tricks.  Waited 3 days for tech who called at the end if the day and said there'd been a mix up in the schedule and did I still want him to come and if course I said YES! When he got here he immediately said the H17-500 would need replacing and that meant more wait time and I was so pleased when the tower arrived the very next day at my door. Read instructions, hooked it up, and samw thing. I called and had the new box activates and no change except that status light was steady  blue and wireless was steady green. The mini genie tried to connect but couldn't. Then I called DirecTV tech and she worked from her end but we couldn't fix. She said a supervisor would call me back within 30 minutes but I heard nothing else. I have scheduled a tech visit for Fri but at this point I'm thinking it has to he the satellite dish itself as it has been here for years now. What are the chances I can get then to go ahead and bring another satellite dish instead of waiting even longer? Thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

Error 615 is usually caused when the WVB cannot be reached by the other Genie Minis. Since you already swapped out an HS17, we can confirm that this issue wasn’t with the box itself. There are a few possibilities such as a bad SWM splitter, an issue with the coaxial run to the HS17, etc. I highly doubt that it is a dish issue because you can still pair clients with the HS17 despite having a misaligned dish.

@LindaSioux55

The HS-17 has a built in Wireless Video Bridge (WVB) I suggest moving the HS-17 to another location Closer to the Wireless mini's -or your other option is to replace the wireless mini's with Wired ones.

The HS-17 does not connect to any TV has it has no direct Video output ports only sends Video & audio to a WVB -then to the wireless units --Or over your (CABLE) MOCO rg-6 connected to wired Mini's.

TO test Move a wireless mini-Closer to your current HS-17 Location and see if the 615 error changes

detuch254 Thank you for your response. I had wondered about the SWM splitter and coax myself. However, a brand new splitter was included with the new box but that the coax is the same and is on a very short leash so I can't move it anywhere as there is barely enough cable to have it sit atop the table where it is. The mini genie has always been pretty close, about 2 and1/2 feet. The thing is I am not able to pair clients with it so I'm thinking you must be speaking figuratively as I am unaware if my dish has also become misaligned as well.

goldw1800  I thank you also for your response.  I did try moving the mini genie a bit closer to the tower and rebooted but its still the same. During the time I had the tower off today, I noticed that despite having it unplugged the same error message popped up on my screen when I wasn't even fooling with it.  One other thing that I've always wanted to ask about is that the Directv shows up in my list of available connections to the internet on my pc.  If you click on it, it even asks for a password. And when I light my burner on my stove, it causes loud sounds to erupt from my computer while the igniter strikes.  I'm not asking for answers, obviously some glitch in electrical with the last one, just thought it was kind of creepy.

Juniper,  Thank you for letting me know I was on old news.  New to this, especially when using the cell phone and I can barely see it to find my way around. Pc is much better for me. I put in a new question, so thank you.
