Ethernet connection causes lost picture

We have a DirectTV HD DVR.  I don't know the model number.  Since connecting the ethernet cable last night we have been experiencing losing the picture on the tv.  One minute the picture on just a regular directtv channel (not on demand) is there and then it disappears or it reappears.  We have not tried to watch an on demand show yet.
