External Drive Video's

I have some old VHS videos that are recorded onto a 1TB external hard drive via a VCR2PC device. I also have TVersity downloded onto my computer via the internet to organize the videos. I also have two devices from DirecTV for use with on demand movies from Directv via the internet. If I go to my tv and use the remote and select (menu-music,photo's & more-my computer-tversity  drive M- videos-All),  I receive a list of the movies on drive M and can select and watch one at a time. The video is good but the audio is poor. The video and audio if watched on the computer are both good.

I tried connecting the external drive with the videos to both the eSATA and USB ports but the DVR did not recognize the drive at either port.

Is there another device that I can get to make the DVR work with the external drive?
