External Hard Drive
Can I use a USB cable to connect an external Hard Drive or do I need to get a differant cable? The external drive is a Samsung 1TB Super Speed USB Hi-Speed USB, (it can handle 3.0 or 2.0 USB) I believe I saw a USB port on the rear of My DVR which is a DIRECTV HR24-100.

No. The HD DVRs support only external eSATA drives, not USB. More info here ....
