EXTREME HEAT AND POOR RECEPTION

In the summer, our satellite gets very poor reception.  I have checked all of the connections and they seem to be fine.  When I call tech support, they are pretty much useless.  They have answers for poor reception when it is raining outside, but no answers to problems in extreme heat and I do mean EXTREME HEAT, with indice reading 100+ and high humidity pretty much most of the summer.  We do not have that many problems even when it is raining; we lose reception maybe for 20 minutes and the signal comes back fairly strong.  Does anyone have any answers or suggestions?

This has been happening to me during summer heat for three summers now, it can sometimes be resolved temporarily by unplugging the power inserter and resetting the receiver, but not always.  I am in Texas and the heat and humidity is most certainly the cause.  I can't get an answer to this either. It's like they just have no idea that this is a problem.

While rare LNBs do go bad.

This is almost certainly a defective (heat-sensitive) LNB, or a heat-related issue with a connector. Suggest you get a service call. Free if you have the protection plan, $50 otherwise.

Yes, it happens @brisak.  Usually it's an LNB that becomes sensitive to hot temperatures, or a coax cable connector that's flakey as it expands/contracts with temperature, or even a poor dish mounting that moves with temperatire.

Yes, it does happen more often than you think. Litzdog's post is a good summary.

is the dish mounted on the house?

heat can warp building materials.

even a poorly set pole in the ground can have issues

Then why does it happen only in the summer in extreme heat. As soon as the sun sets the internet comes back. Every summer

@Daniel25martin, we appreciate you reach us to clarify your concern.

Since our service works based on satellites, we might present temporary interference with your DIRECTV reception due to an outage or bad weather.

We offer 99% signal reliability year-round based on a nationwide study of representative cities. On occasion, severe weather conditions may temporarily interrupt a signal, but the clear and crisp picture you're used to should return once conditions improve. You can learn more about interferences and how to FIX ERROR 771.

Let us know how it goes.
