I just received an e-mail for a free Genie Remote. All I have to do is give my e-mail, phone number and account number. Is this a scam or real?

Yes, it is a scam. DIRECTV would never ask for your information if they were to send any sort of information regarding your account. Additionally, the only reason you would get a free remote would be from the Protection Plan. They wouldn’t send an email about a free remote, though.

some lady phoned CID = TOLL FREE 1-855-407-4779 & said DTV is sending me a free genie box - but did NOT ask for any DTV account # or, checking account # or card # - although she confirmed my USPS mailing address. so, we shall see; I only have ONE tv, and it is already connected to a genie.
