Gemeni audio output toggles between tv speakers and soundbar

Just replaced genie product with two Gemeni boxes connected to Sony tvs via hdmi. When powering up the gemeni boxes, they toggle between tv speakers and audio system and half the time land on the tv speakers which is incorrect. And then when I try and go into the tv audio settings and set it back to audio system, nothing happens and it stays on TV speakers. 

the only fix is to power off and hope they choose the correct setting per the tv setting set to audio system(soundbars). Most of the time they do but not always and I don’t want to power my TVs on and off twice every time. 

Why am I having this issue and wasn’t with genie boxes connected the same exact way? About to go back to genies and streaming apps with something else.
