Gemini remote doesn’t shut off Genie box

I discovered today that my new Gemini remote does not turn off the Genie box. Interestingly that the Gemini remote will turn on the genie box, but not off. I contacted DIRECTV support and they said the Gemini remote does not turn off the genie box. Interesting as it works just fine with my receiver and TV but not with its own equipment. Is this accurate?

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to use the remote that came originally with the DIRECTV GEMINI RC82V to control a regular DIRECTV Genie DVR?

That is correct.

The RC82V remote uses Bluetooth even though it also has IR/RF to control the Gemini so not sure it was ever meant to control regular DTV receivers without it.

shannon02 is correct. You cannot use the RC82V to control other receivers. This is simply due to the fact that it mainly connects via Bluetooth

I appreciate the feedback. When I powered off my equipment I found it odd the Gemini remote didn’t also shutdown the Genie DTV box as both boxes are connected to one another. Thanks again!

Not a problem. Glad to have cleared up the confusion

If you watch the LEDs on the RC8xV remote, you will see that SOME buttons light both the blue (Bluetooth) and the red (IR) LEDs

Notably the on off button. This is so pressing off can turn off IR only devices, like you TV and Receiver.

I have not fully mapped what other buttons do this.

Yes, my Genie 2 never turns off. You would not want this anyway, since it could  then not serve any other clients.

No DTV receivers are off but are in standby mode, all DVRs hard drives are running 24/7 to buffer the programs and to receive guide data and any software updates.

Reinforcing this, I believe that there is no "standby" mode for the Genie 2, only the receivers/clients.

The standby mode would not make sense for a Genie 2, since it is a server, it needs to be ready for any client to access it at any time, and since it has no "output" (video), there's no power really to be saved.

By the way, I have used and tested the RC8xV remotes with a Gemini in IR only mode, they work fine... but! the Gemini notices and encourages (bugs) you to pair the remote. When you pair it, almost all IR commands go away (all the Gemini ones, but it stays IR for any receiver/tv)

My issue is with the DirectTV 2020 model Genie cable box.  The ethernet port was never used until now when I plugged in the ethernet cable as part of the installation of the new Gemini Voice Activated component.  The port is blinking orange.  DirectTV Tech support says that's normal and shows data transfer occurring. I think my old Genie cable box either has a bad ethernet port or the new ethernet cable that came with the Gemini equipment is bad.  What do you think?

Thanks.

When clicking “Guide” on the Genie receiver, is the WiFi signal at the top left lit up with all the bars (or most of them) turned white? If not, your Genie receiver is not connected to the Internet over Ethernet/wireless WiFi and therefore you should rerun  Internet Setup to resolve this by going to Menu, Settings, Reconnect Now or Internet Setup (both go to the same setting), press the (-) DASH button, and follow the onscreen directions.

Don't use the "on" button. Use "Guide" or "List". Genie doesn't need to be "On".
