Genie DVR
I got a message from Juniper to start a new thread. I was complaining about my Genie HR44/700 not having autotune and reminders. He said autotune is a "niche" very few users use. Plus, he said Genie has more features than record. Well, here they are. When you press select on a show coming on in the future here are the options. 1) Record Once 2)Record Series, 3) Other Showings 4) Cast and Crew. My Dish VIP 612, which is over 12 years old has these features when you press select. 1) Record 2) Autotune 3) Set Reminder (With options for daily, weekly) 4) Record New Episodes 5) Record All Episodes. So when I said Genie has one feature...record, am I wrong? Yes, I'm calling Dish because it's a deal breaker. Am I supposed to set reminders on my phone to remember? With Dish, it will autotune to channel if you are going to be out of the room. Or a reminder weekly that show will be on in 2 minutes. Dish hinted at paying termination fee, because I had been a customer for over 12 years, and NEVER missed a payment. When I called Monday the 21st to cancel, Dish gave me a $40 credit to try out DirecTV for 2 weeks, and call back with my decision. I don't need 2 weeks. Reminders are not a niche feature, they help us older folks remember to watch our favorite shows. I am retired, and rarely record 1 show while watching another, much less 5. Also with Dish guide, I can skip ahead a day (24 Hours) by pressing guide button again, up to 14 days. If I see something I want to watch next week, I press on it, and get all the options I listed above. It's on me for not researching Genie. I just (Edited per community guidelines)umed it would have all the features my 12 year-old Dish receiver had. It doesn't. I'm not trying to be an (Edited per community guidelines), I just know this. I would research what my main competitor has on their DVR's and have them on mine. Sorry.

So if you like how Dish works better, pay the ETF to cancel DirecTV and go back to Dish.

Yes, I don't know what the hangup is for reminders/autotune. Like most DVR owners, I just about never watch anything live, I just record everything. If I switch on the TV a little late, I can just start watching the recording, it's not like I lose anything. If anything its better because I can skip the commercials.

if you want auto tune --It's on every D* HD receiver --move your Hr44 to a rom you don't use as often and put a HD receiver in it's place.
You can still use the "list" to see all recordings and you can recored to the HR44 from the HD receiver.
Problem solved
