Genie Mini freezes up, flashes amber light, restarts every ~10 minutes

We have a genie mini (model C31-700) which began freezing the TV screen, then flashing an amber light on mini, the restarting with a screen message of "reconnecting " every ~10 minutes. Have checked cables, power supply connections, hit reset button, unplugged and let it sit overnight. No change. Main DVR box works fine. 

It seems to be especially bad if watching a recording and fast forward or reverse.

Any ideas or suggestions appreciated. I called DirecTV support, but the phone person was worthless.

The C31 is now considered obsolete because it came with the original HR34 Genie HD DVR back in 2012. What are your other receiver models? (Not including the C31)

I suggest you call DIRECTV (number in my greeting below) and have them send a replacement for your C31. 


As far as slow performance on the C31, this is likely normal as the original model can’t handle the modern software and features that well anymore.

The main is an HR44-200. We pay $225 a month, with no sports packages, have equipment insurance, lose all service (error code 775) when their is heavy rain or any snow, have called DTV cust support about pixilation in all recordings & other issues and told by techs sent that they can find no problem.  We live in remote area with no fast internet or mobile connections or we would go to streaming and dump this service.

They are sending a new mini after telling me it was a connection problem and not their equipment (never mentioning that it is OBSOLETE.)  I will call and see if they will send a receiver and also see if there is another satellite provider out there.

The only other satellite service in the US at the moment is DISH Network. 

As this is a public forum and we are customers just like you, we wouldn’t mind you dumping the service, we pay the same price as you don’t forget!
