Genie mini in an RV

Can a Genie mini work as a standalone receiver in an RV?  Directv said it would replace my standard nondvr receiver in my RV with a mini and said it would work when I'm on the road but I have my doubts.   I thought they would upgrade it to a Genie but I just found out they are sending me a mini instead.  I don't think it will work without a Genie.  Haven't received the new one yet.   I guess I could keep the old standard receiver but it wont work with HD which is OK with me but SD is going away.....isn't it?

No minis are bricks without a Genie and you can only have one Genie per account and if you have the HS17 Genie2 you are screwed as that account only allows minis. You need an H25 or HR24 receiver for the RV.

Yes the SD MPEG2 channels are going bye bye.

You are correct that the Genie mini receiver will not work as a standalone receiver in your RV.  If you have a Genie on your account, then the agent was talking about replacing the D12, i.e., with a mini. It will work when connected to the Genie system in  your home, but not as a standalone in your RV or tailgate situation. That agent does not understand the difference between a Genie mini and a receiver. You may receive an H24, we hope, which will work as a standalone receiver using your current dish in the RV, with no recording capability. However, if it is hooked up to your Genie system in your house, it will act the same way a mini will and you can select to record to the Genie, in addition to working as a standalone receiver.   The other option you may receive is an H25 receiver, it is also a standalone receiver, but it requires a SWM antenna system, the same as the Genie requirement.

b52pooh, shannon02, thanks for the reply.  l didn't think the agent knew what he was talking about.  I'll look into the H24, that's what both of you  suggested.
