Genie unauthorized access, viewing, recording and deleting.

Our Directv genie has been hacked over the past 3 weeks. We are remote with no one living in WI-FI range. We contacted tech support about 4 times. They were dumb to this Directv issue* and blamed our internet provider, WI-FI router. After convincing Directv tech support of this real problem needing a site visit they required $90 but sold us an $8/mouth protection plan to fix. So far two Directv service guys have made a site visit, both dumb to the Directv hacking issue. Directv changed our user ID and password, replaced all suspect equipment, we incorporated all the recommend parent controls, upgraded our router and paying Directv $8/month. While the hacker continues enjoy unauthorized access, viewing, recording and deleting of our Directv.

Does anyone know how to "unhack" and protect our Directv account?

We're here to help, @Upthehill41.

The security flaw that you're referring to with the Wireless Video Bridge was patched in July of 2018. This security flaw was only exploitable by someone who had access to your home network, since devices connected to the internet are usually automatically protected through a router firewall, but has since been taken care of and should no longer be an issue.

What is causing you to believe that you have been hacked, and where exactly are you noticing any unauthorized access to your DVR recordings?

Let us know more, so we know how to proceed.

Well here is my 2nd try. There are many issues to the hacking mostly listed in subject. We (2 viewers) have 3 tv sets, mostly watch the genie receiver tv. We witnessed most of the hacking watching the tv DVR with the video bridge (tvvb). There is a tv DVR in basement. The hacks are many and I will list (in no particular order) as follows:
Dueling remote controls. We notice the tvvb turned on when hackers accessing menu and we turn it off then they turn it back on. This battle continues for too until they give up.
Hacker accessing channels 9556? not in our contract for hacker viewing of soccer match showing in basement.
Basement access "blocked" for our viewing of record because others (too many) have access.
Our recorded programs not yet viewed by us but deleted by hacker.
My setup series recording deleted and new recording setup by hacker (Rachael Ray just added).
Discovering in the morning 3hr program (baseball game) on play list.
PPV recordings (typically kids movies) found on our recording play list not billed.
Recorded programs of shopping channel jewelry channel 73 not on our viewing list.
Recorded programs setup for Flipping a millionaire maker. On two channels fox and abc in early morning.
Recorded programs setup for Women: Get your hair back! On unknown blocked channel 2 look and not on our viewing list.
Recorded programs setup for Best power saw ever! On unknown blocked channel 1 win and not on our viewing list.

The video bridge issue was stated by the 2nd tech visit. The 3rd tech visit was classic. He came, he saw, he left saying "I can't do anything need to remove genie and hard cable a new receiver, make an appointment for someone else".

Hope this answers your questions

Hi There @Upthehill41,

We can help with this. Looks like a total replacement of all receivers is going to be the best option for you.

To proceed with that, what we will have to do is send you a private message to your forums inbox.

Once you get the notification, please do the following steps:

1. Log-in to your forums account.

There remains a few problems and you have a very dissatisfied client. Note calls by Pam (wife), chat and forum by me not able to speak due to ALS.

1. We had an appointment (setup during a Wednesday chat) for your tech visit for Friday 6/28 morning window. The tech arrived unannounced Thursday 6/27 morning, this visit is referenced above as 3rd tech (now known as Scott). After his "hit and run" rude visit we schedule another visit for Friday pm window. We received a few robo calls confirming afternoon then a last pushing arrival to 6:00. At 7:00 we called your tech support line and was informed there was no way to find the tech, we discussed / reviewed the hacking issue AGAIN with your support supervisor and rescheduled a tech visit for Saturday pm window.
Saturday, we got the tech call around noon, it was Scott being more rude than before accusing us of not allowing service on Thursday and somehow he was proud of not making the Friday pm appointment. Pam asked Scott to move forward and "forgive the past" however he was too rude to honor this scheduled appointment and apparently called his supervisor. We received a call from the supervisor who arranged a different tech.
2. The next tech arrived as scheduled and was also a repeat (2nd tech) Anthony who was cordial and professional. He decided to remove both the genie and video bridge which was replaced with a new DVR receiver. No other equipment was replaced. We were informed that this repair would require a renewal of the two year contract. This was pure extortion we did not argue with the tech. However, this replacement is a downgrade and correcting a Directv systemic problem and do not agree to a two year contract extension.
3. The hacking continues! Recordings of programs are being scheduled with one recording a Spanish language also many single recordings of Keeping Up With The Kardashians assumed not programed as series to avoid detection. Also this tv with new (much smaller) DVR receiver continues to operate like genie is still connected. We are able to view recordings from basement tv DVR. There are reference to the genie when attempting to make profile changes. No changes allowed to connect to Internet for this tv DVR because of non-existing genie.

Please confirm next step(s) and the contact status related to the hacking repairs.

We're not DirecTV, we are all customers here.

Without seeing your system it's difficult to even guess what is going on. Is there any way your internet is being shared by someone else? What happens if you switch your internet off completely?

I've never heard of the sort of "hacking" that you're describing.

Usually these symptoms when someone is sharing your satellite dish, like in an apartment/condo complex. Or if someone has hijacked your WiFi/network.
