HD DVR moved to mobile location

I have a friend who has a H24 HD DVR that he is trying to hook to a standard 18'' dish at his beach house. I told him this wouldnt work because he does not have SWM at the beach location plus the standard dish but he keeps telling me it will?? Who is right?
