HD DVR upgrade HD channels dont work SD channels do work

Ok so I got a nice new TV last week and the SD feed is horrible so I ordered a HD DVR it got here today and I installed it myself.

Got it all hooked up and had to call customer service to register it and blah blah blah. Got it all going and I get the searching for signal sat in 2. The guy on the phone has me do a bunch of things and everything seems to check out. Switch the cables, same thing. Reset it a couple times still 771. The guy set me up for a tech to come out in a couple days but I want to try and get this to work like now.

After changing things around I decided to try a SD channel and low and behold the SD channels work just fine. So what makes a SD channel work perfect for no signal for the HD channels?
