HD Receiver not updating playlist after 24 hours

All

I have an H21 and an HR20-700.  I was previously a beta tester for the MRV and it worked fine over my dedicated 100 mbs lan.  Well once I signed up for the service after the beta ended and got it activated I have not been about to go 24 hours after a reset/power cycle of having the receiver have a fresh/updated playlist of what is recorded on the HR20.

Just to be clear for the first 24 hours after a reset everything works fine, playlists are all current, I'm able to select any recording and it plays back fine on the H21 but wait until the next day and the playlist is stale.  It does not show any new shows that have been recorded.  I am still able to playback older shows that have not been deleted on the HR20

Anybody else experiencing this problem

I just did some more troubleshooting and did the following

1.  re-shared the playlist on the DVR (hr20) - No updated list on the Receiver
2.  Re-named the DVR from LivingRoom to LivingRoom1 - no update list
3.  Rebooted the DVR - No Updated List

4.  Redid network setup on Receiver (H21) - No updated playlist
5.  Reset Receiver - UPDATED Playlist

Now I then went back to the Living Room and deleted a show on the DVR playlist and it does not update on the H21 Receiver.  This tells me that updates are not happening at all to the H21.  I even waited a few minutes to see if there is some sort of lag but no updates.

So it appears that the HR21 is not either sending updates about changes to the playlist or the H21 Receiver is not fetching a new playlist after a reset.

thoughts?

Well after much trial and error I finally figured out what the problem was. The DVR and Receiver update their playlists via a multicast group. Long story short, In the beta I was using plain old powerline adapters from Netgear. Right after the beta ended I bought some Zyxel homeplug adapters. The main adapter is a wireless access point plus homeplug adapter. There was a configuration setting in there that one needs to turn on to enable multicast packets to flow through.

I found all of this out by doing a packet trace (good ol WireShark). Whenever something was added/deleted/chaged to the DVR playlist, a multicast packet was sent out. The Zyxel box was not forwarded these. Once enabled all is well. Hope this helps somebody out

Good luck.  Note that powerline adapters and more particularly wireless networks were discouraged during beta.  However, if your's are working, don't look a gift horse etc.

that is why I upgraded Powerline adapters.  My old netgear ones only did about 18 mbs.  The new ones I have through Zyxel average over 80 mbs which in my book is pretty damn close to 100 meg ethernet

Right on, no doubt the 85 models are far superior to the 18's.  I'm under the impression that the problem with powerline adapters stemmed from possible interference between the streamed data between units and the normal current flow in the AC lines.  I would guess that which circuits, condition of breakers, orther attached devices and a whole host of other factors would influence this.

In any event, if yours is working, then enjoy.  If you ever move any components and have difficulty though, you might consider this info.
