HDMI version
I am wiring a house and would like to know the type of HDMI cable to install.
What version of HDMI does Direct TV output? Is it 1.3 or 1.4 (a,b).
What version will be used by Direct TV in the future?

Directv uses 1.1 but as far as I know any HDMI cable will work. If it were me I'd run that HDMI cable through a conduit so if it went bad I could replace it.

DirecTV uses HDMI v1.1a. Any good quality HDMI calbe will work fine. Monoprice has great cables at great prices.

Not sure where you guys got this info but the HDMI cables that are coming from DTV's warehouse currently are labeled 1.3b.

Any HDMI cable will work fine with the DirecTV DVRs. The HDMI interface in the HD Receivers/DVRs uses the 1.1a standards. So cables rated anything higher than that will work fine. And that's pretty much any HDMI cable ever made.

As Litzdog says, it really does not matter. here's a great article about HDMI cables http://www.bluejeanscable.com/articles/hdmi-cables.htm?hdmiinfo and another http://www.bluejeanscable.com/articles/hdmi-1-4-cable.htm?hdmiinfo , and another http://www.bluejeanscable.com/articles/how-long-can-hdmi-run.htm?hdmiinfo The most important thing is to get a cable which is designed for the distance you are going to run it, which means long cables are thicker (and therefore more difficult to handle)
If you are running the cable in the wall, then dcd's recommendation to use conduit is an excellent one.
EDIT: AS you can see from the link, there is really no such thing as "HDMI 1.4 cable". The only thing is that if you are wiring inside a wall and you think you might ever need the Ethernet return path, you would need a cable designed specifically for that. Most so-called 1.4 cables don't have that (it's a different cable configuration).
Both Monoprice and Bluejeanscable are great sources for cable. I have used both.
