HDMI won't initialize properly?
I recently had DirecTV installed (like 3 days ago), and I'm running into an issue that I don't know how to resolve...
The main TV in the TV room is a Toshiba 46" LCD TV. Connected to it via HDMI are a PC, a Blu-Ray player, and the DirecTV DVR. The problem is that if I shut off the tv, and leave the DVR box turned on, the next time I turn on the TV, it sorta "blinks" saying "satellite/dss", like it's trying to initialize the HDMI port.
This happens EVERY time the DVR is turned on before the TV, and has since it was first installed.
If I then turn off the DVR, leave it off for 5 seconds, and turn it back on, all is well...
Initially I didn't think anything of it. I just always made sure that I turned on the TV first. That was not a problem until tonight. Monday Night football starts at 8:30pm, and Monster Jam starts at 8pm. Monster Jam started recording at 8pm like it was supposed to, however, we were unable to turn off the dvr before turning on the tv at 8:25 so we could watch monday night football... Since the dvr is recording, we can't shut off the dvr.
For the moment, I got around it by hooking a set of composite cables and watching it that way, but I lose HD that way. I would like to know if anyone else has run into this and what I should do to fix it...
I have not run into this issue with either the PC or the Blu-Ray player, so it seems to be only the DVR causing this issue.
Thanks

these receivers are never really off, there are rather on standby. you can shut off your DVR safely even if its recording a show. the problem that you are having has to do with a "feature" built in to the HDMI connections called "handshaking" this is to prevent piracy on the content that you are watching. since you discovered that turning both sets at the same time reduces the amount of the handshake, that would be your only solution.
