Help with chromecast on gemini box

I have a new gemini box that says it has chromecast
built in. In the apps section, there is no chromecast
app like there was in my genie box. But when I click
on the cast button on my phone or computer, I see a
chromeast connection with the name assigned to the
gemini box. When I click it, it says connecting for
a while but then does not connect.
I spent an hour on the phone with two different directv
people. They spent that time giving me what I believe to
be incorrect information. Here are some of the things
they told me.
1. since the chrome cast app does not appear when
clicking the apps button I needed to d/l the       chromecast app from play store.
tried that and the app on the play store said
"built in" and the only option was to uninstall
     it.
2. then they told me that I must log in to google for
it to work. I was logged in. It was clear that I
was in the play store. I could see my picture in
in the upper right corner of the screen indicating
that I was signed in. I could also see my apps
    and apps that needed upgrades.
3. then the said i need to download the app on my tv not
 on the gemini box.
I knew this was wrong so I didn't even try
4. then i had to leave home so they said they would
email instructions on how to access chromeast.
the email was a link to a directv page that said
   not one word about chromecast.
One thing that I thought might be the issue is that
the gemini box is connected to the network via
ethernet. I was told by both people that this could
   NOT be the problem.

Please, can someone here tell me how to use chromecast
on the gemini box?

THANX!!!!

Hi @jrjmpls. We're sorry for the trouble with the Chromecast on Gemini box and for the time spent talking to two different representatives. The mobile device and Google Chromecast device must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network and ensure the device being used is compatible with Google Chromecast and DIRECTV. Visit https://www.directv.com/support/article/000066174 to get info on compatible streaming devices. DIRECTV is here to help. Denjylene, DIRECTV Community Specialist

No, Chromecast does not show in app. See item 1 in my post.

The link in the first response says that the connection for the gemini can be wired, doesn't it?

Yes, that's accurate. It can be either a wired or Wi-Fi® internet connection for TV streaming devices. Additionally, to cast content using Google Chromecast:
1. Download Google Cast app.
2. Connect to Chromecast in Devices menu.
3. Download content app if needed.
4. Open app, select Cast icon.
5. Choose Chromecast device.
6. Play content, it should display on TV.

Did you read my post. I shouldn't need to download the app to the gemini because it is "built in". I know how to connect to chromecast from my phoye or computer-IO've been doing it forever. Who can I talk to to resolve this issue? Phone support is useless. There must be someone at DirecTV who understands how this is supposed to work!

We understand your frustration if this issue has not been resolved yet. Could you share what's your TV brand/model?

In the meantime, you can try to follow these steps; On the remote control,

1. Press the Apps or Diamond button.
2. Press the down arrow, highlighting All My Apps.
3. Press OK. Within All Apps, there is an option to view: All, default setting when selecting All Apps, Apps, Games
4. To select an app, scroll down and to the right to highlight the app, then press OK. The customer is redirected to the app to sign in.

Let me know if this works. Lynie, DIRECTV Community Specialist

yeah, I did not go further... searching the play store, it shows up as built in, and all I can do is uninstall.

Selecting uninstall, it just asks if I want to uninstall all updates...

But you are right, no way to run it...

I uninstalled it, and after the uninstall (updates), it asked me to update it... back to square zero, no way to run it..

If you go to app settings from the settings menu, and then list system apps, you can see "chromecast built-in" is there, version 1.68.410410

So maybe the key is connecting to it (as you surmise).. perhaps you need the ip address of the gemini?

DIRECTV Help post above:

1.ok got to apps screen

2. found all my apps

3. don't see anything saying all, default setting when selectint all apps, apps, games

3. i can select apps. what app are you telling me to select and get redirected to?

If you are telling me to select the chromecast app, then read my first post. NO CHROMECAST APP APPEARS IN APPS.

Again I ask, isn't there someone at DirecTV that I can talk to and get this resolved????>??

crazy, isn't it?

So, knowing the ip of the Gemini, you can tell what network it is on, there is that restriction to have both devices on the same wi-fi network, and for example in my house, the gemini is on 5GHz wi-fi... that might help connection problems... apparently it works on a peer to peer wi-fi connection.

The gemini is wired with ethernet. I was told by two different people on the phone that that would work. I was also told in post #5 in this string that a wired ethernet connection would work.

Yep, missed that, sorry... that eliminates one potential issue... will be interested in seeing how this goes. Can you let us know progress?

I just unhooked the ethernet and reconnected to the same wifi that phones and laptops are connected to. Still same problem. I can see what I think is the gemini device in the list that comes up when pressing the cast icon on the phone or laptop. Then it says connecting, but it never connects.
