Hisense TV
Hello, my 94 year old mother is in a nursing home and we recently had to buy her a Hisense TV. I've done everything I can think of to program her remote including buying a new Direct TV Remote.
I am able to get the the Direct TV remote to work on the volume and channels, however, when you first turn the tv on, you get a screen that shows "Live TV". You have to use the Hisense TV remote to go to live tv and as long as she doesn't turn the tv off, she can use her Direct tv remote. It is hard enough to show her how to use the Direct Tv remote, much explaining to her that she has to use the Hisense remote to get to programs. Can you help me with this?

Hello. Thank you for taking the time to share your issue with your remote. To pair your DIRECTV TV remote to the device, please follow the steps: https://www.directv.com/support/article/000092831.
-Press MENU on the remote.
-Select Settings, then Remote Control.
-Select IR/RF Setup.
-If currently in RF mode, change to IR.
-Select Continue.
-Press the Exit button.
To be on the same page, which service does your mother have, and what is the model of the remote? Maria, DIRECTV Community Specialist

The current Direct TV remote she has was provided by the assisted living. When I go to settings on that remote, it only gives me two options. I don’t remember exactly what they were, but neither had anything to do with the remote.
I purchased a new Direct TV remote,Model RC66RX. I followed the steps I. The pamphlet that told you how to set up tv for the remote. It turned the tv on and off and the volume button was working, however when I turned the tv off and waited about 5 minutes to turn it back on, I get the Hisense screen which is when I have to use the Hisense Remote to go to “Live TV”. Like I said, it is hard enough to explain to her how to use one remote, much less two.

What DVR/Receiver model number?
Does she have her own DirecTV box or is this a feed from the assisted living facility?

No, she doesn't own the box. It is provided by the AL facility.

No customer owns the box. What was being asked is there a DirecTV box on the TV or is the feed provided directly to the TV without a box being on it?

The TV may have a setting to make the HDMI port the DTV is plugged into the default input when the TV is powered on.

She has a separate Direct TV box that is provided by the facility.

The tv is set up for HDMI connection and works fine once you get past the screen shown above, but you have to use the Hisense remote to get there. It is confusing for her and I am hoping to find a way to get around her having to use the Hisense remote in any way. She has to call me every time she turns her tv off because the tv will go back to the screen above. She has dementia, so even though I have printed out instructions for her, she always forgets.

Unless you can change the default screen on power up it is the TV that is causing the problem. Most DTV remotes can be set up the change the input of the TV but your mother may not remember to change the input with the DTV remote.

Thanks…I’ll try the directions sent by the Direct TV person above and if that doesn’t work, I’ll try getting in touch with someone at Hisense.

Since it is the AL that provides the DTV equipment they may have an MDU setup that use different receivers and remotes than a residential setup uses and the remotes are setup differently.
