home theater volume control

I programmed my Yamaha home theater receiver into my remote. The remote is able to turn it on/off and switch speaker channels but when I use the volume control button, the TV volume changes, not the volume on the stereo receiver. The old DVR connect the same way worked fine. Obviously, if it turns on/off it is understanding the signal, is there something I missed in my wire connections or is there something else? I have tried up to 10 of the program codes for Yamaha receivers and nothing changed.

The volume keys never work initially with any audio code, reason is the volume keys won't work at all without a tv code programmed  to the tv device. Once there is a tv code, its volume is now in the way, but that can be remedied.

So to get the yamaha volume in just a single device:

1. av1 or av2

2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release

3. enter 9 9 3

4. press VOL down

In all devices:

1. av1 or av2

2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release

3. enter 9 9 3

4. press SELECT

Thanks a bunch, it worked!! It's amazing that I spoke with 3 different technical support people over 3 days at DirectTv and not one of them had this as a solution. In fact, they are sending out a new remote as they thought that might be the problem. Thanks again.
