Hooking up a 2nd reciever

I have a HD-DVR (HR22-100), then I bought a 2nd receiver (standard D12-100) to hook up in another room.  I called Direct TV and they "turned it on" (Not sure what they do, but I'm being charged $5.00 for a 2nd receiver being on).  To hook up the 2nd receiver I just put in a splitter.  This did not work - the HD-DVR quit working.  I read somewhere that I need a special splitter, so I ordered one.DIRECTV SWS-2 Satellite 2-Way Wide Band MRV Compatible Splitter (2 -2150 MHz)

Is there anything else I need to know about hooking up this reciever?  Should I call Direct TV and have them send someone out to hook this up?

(I checked "Direct TV" as the Receiver Manufacturer below, but I'm not positive on this.)
