how do i save the movies i have recorded on my old box when I activate my new box.

Only way is to copy them to DVD --or record them again when they are rebroadcast .Once the New receiver is activated all the old recordings are lost as they stay with that DVR.

The DVR was designed as a way to timeshift programming not as a way of storing programs "for ever".
