How Many DVR's Can I Have In A WHDVR?
I have 8 TV's.
I have 5 DVR's.
When I go to Setup>Whole Home Status... I only see 4 receivers in the list...
1) Is there a limit on DVR's per install? That is, if I want to be a freak and put 8 DVR's in the install... is that ok?
2) Will all xx DVR's show up each Setup>Whole Home Status check... (minus the one I'm using)?
3) Does the menu in the status check limit the number of WH networked DVR's listed?
Curious.
Thanks.

the DVR limit is 10. but the receivers have a glitch now that will only show five under the status screen, but the list will merge all playlist together.
under the status screen you will see all of the DVR's (first five, for now) minus the one you are getting the status from.

I'm not clear as to whether this is something you actually have or are contemplating. However, I assume that you're aware that you cannot have 5 DVR's on a SWM dish and that that many tuners requires a conventional Slimline dish and a SWM16 multiswitch. With the SWM16, you'd have two independent 8 way (tuner) splitters, so the 5 DVR's would be split up anyway.

Excellent.
I assume this glitch will be noted and resolved in some future software download.
Thank you very much.

PS... I actually have 6 DVR's and 3 receivers with a SWM 16... all are happy.
Just couldn't see all 6 DVR's from the H24-500 Whole Home Status Screen.

Great. I also assume you know that you could move the various DVR's and receivers around on the multiswitch so that the important ones shared. Example adult section and kids section.

I am a little confused by dcd's last post. as with a SWM16 switch, all receivers can be shared if the user decides to do so.

I suggested that the user could connect the DVR's in such a way as to see the ones he wanted on either status list. It's a minor detail, much the same as his original post. His system is apparently working fine, but his original question, and your original answer, related to the setup screen, and that is what my reply relates to as well.

@dcd
but wouldnt the op need BSF's to separate the playlist from the two SWM outputs. I am not understanding of how re-aranging the DVR's on the switch the user can choose which DVR's to share. unless ofcourse you use BSF on one of the outputs

I'm also confused and need help! I had the WHDVR installed and since then, two of my receivers have been "searching for signal". I am not an installer, but I have a total of 6 receivers: (2) 24-500 (no Deca), (1) 20-700 (Deca), (2) 22-100 (Deca) and (1) 21-700 (Deca). The 21-700 has a power inserter connected to it between the wall and the receiver. and one of the 24-500 has the Deca Broadband adapter connected to it via SWM splitter (one line from the wall split between the 24-500 and the adapter). I think I have a SWM dish, I believe with 4 lines coming off of it) and I connected to a 16 Channel SWN switch. The 6 receivers are connected to the 16 Channel SWM switch with a 4 way SWM splitter (3 Lines) and a 8 way SWM switch (3 Lines). The DirecTV installer has been out 3 times to fix this problem to no avail. Any thoughts? By the way the problem is on the 24-500 connected to Deca Broadband adapter and one of the 22-100. Does this exceed the DVR limit in any way?

Darrylj,
The BB adapter should be connected to the coax cable, not the HR24. Ideally at the main splitter, but it could be on a 2 way splitter if that line is on the 4 way. Note that each side of the SWM16 has a limit of 8 tuners. With only 3 lines connected to each you are within limits. I would like to see two 4 way splitters and get rid of the 8 way. The reason? Each side has a limit of 8 splitter ports, and if your BB module is in the 8 way leg, then you have 10 splitters on that leg. I would also preser to see the power inserter connected directly to the SWM16. Assuming the BB adapter is connected to your router, I'd do a power down reset as follows. Do it in the exact order listed.
Assuming all of your components are connected properly, if you connect the router after the receivers/DVR's are activated, it's necessary to reconfigure the system with a power off reset. Assure that your router is set for DHCP auto configuration before proceeding.
Disconnect AC power from all DVR's and receivers, disconnect the power supply to the DECA/BB module connected to the router and disconnect AC power to the SWM power inserter. Disconnect power from your Modem and router. Then reconnect in the following order. The Modem, the router, SWM power inserter, the DECA/BB router power supply, the HD DVR's, allowing each to boot up before proceeding, the HD receivers, and finally the SD receivers, if any.

dcd,
The BB adapter is connected directly to the 2 way SWM splitter as follows: The satelile feed from the wall is connected to one port side of the spliter while the HR24 and BB adapter are connected to the two port side of the 2 way SWM splitter. Is this OK? Also, the installer can't come back until Monday, so I will have him reconfigure as per your instructions. 1) I will have him move the power inserter to the attic and connect directly to the SWM16p; 2) I will have him change the 8 port SWM splitter to a 4 port SWM splitter, thus using two 4 port SWM splitters; 3) In order to connect the BB adapter directly to the SWM16, the installer would have to do a new run directly fromt the SWM16 to the BB adapter. If you think this will help, I will insist he do so. 4) The network is set to DHCP - We will lastly do a power down reset in the exact order you directed.
FYI, the installer asked for the make and model of my network equipment. Here it is - Cable modem - Motorola Surfboard SB6120, Router - Linksys WRT310N, Switch - Linksys SD216. Also I just did a speedtest on my broadband and it has download speeds of 25651 kb per second.
Is there any thing else I need to change? Thanks for your help!

No, sounds correct, and the BB module connected to the 2 way splitter is fine. With your connection speed, you will be able to begin watching downloads as soon as they begin and the download will finish before you are finished watching. Anxiously awaiting the results of your work. Make sure that 75 ohm terminator caps (the ones that come with the splitters) are on all unused ports, including the power inserter.

DCD,
Today I disconnected the Garage HD-DVR and now have no problems on any of the remaining 5 HD-DVRs. That tells me that the splitter that the garage DVR was on is overloaded with two may lines. I don't have the equipment to tell if that line is on the 4 way or 8 way splitter. I'm guessing that the Garage - 20-700, Family Room - 24-500 with 2 way splitter and BBA, and Brian Bedroom - 22-100 are all on the same splitter.
What does this mean?

Rather than think of lines, think in terms of tuners. The 20-700, 24-500 and the 22-100 total 6 tuners, well within the capability of one side of the SWM16. You have a total 6 DVR's or 12 tuners, so the main thing you need to do is be sure that no more than 8 are on either side of the SWM16. Note that the BB module creates a ninth channel so doesn't use any of the available 8 tuner feeds.
Not sure why the garage DVR would cause problems, you'd need to describe what was happening, the problem it caused etc. I'm on the way to report to the Mrs for tonight, but will check back in the morning.

DCD,
The 24-500 and 22-100 would both say "Searching for signal (771)". When you check signal strength, It comes up no signal. When I disconnected the garage coaxial from the Deca, the signal came thru on all the receivers at 96 or higher. What about this plan:
1) Move the power inserter to the SWM16.
2) Change the Deca on the Garage 20-700. (Bad?)
3) Change the SWM 8 way splitter to a SWM 4 way splitter for a total of 8 available tuners on each side.
4) Leave the other SWM 4 way splitter on the other side in place.
5) Connect 3 receivers (6 tuners) to each SWM 4 way splitter for a total of 6 receivers (twelve turners).
6) Make sure all unused ports on the SWM 16 and both SWM 4 way splitters and the power inserter all have 75 ohjm caps installed on them.
7) Disconnect AC power from all DVR's and receivers, disconnect the power supply to the DECA/BB module connected to the router and disconnect AC power to the SWM power inserter. Disconnect power from your Modem and router. Then reconnect in the following order. The Modem, the router, SWM power inserter, the DECA/BB router power supply, the HD DVR's, allowing each to boot up before proceeding, the HD receivers.
😎 Pray that it works!
