How to program an RC66RX remote to operate a DirecTV HR22-100 receiver

The RC66RX remote that DirecTV sent me will NOT operate my DirecTV HR22-100 receiver.  I am seeking to program it to operate the HR22-100 receiver.    This is not a request on how to program the remote to control the TV, Audio, etc....

@FrustratedCCC

use this link

RC66RBX manual.pdf

Start first by looking a page 22 and reset the remote to factory defaults and make sure your battery are in correctly.

RESTORING FACTORY DEFAULT SETTINGS
To reset all the functions of the remote control to the
factory defaults (the original, out-of-the-box settings),
follow these steps:
1.
 2.
Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT keys at the same
time until the green light flashes twice, then release
both keys.
Using the number keys, enter 9-8-1. (The green light flashes 4 times.)

After a couple of attempts...Success!  It now operates the HR22 Receiver.   Thanks for sharing the info above.  The brochure that came with the remote, was a trifold and was focused on identifying buttons, the button's functionality and a quick overview on how to have the remote program/pair with a TV.   It did NOT address programing/pairing with a DirecTV receiver.
Thanks for the input to all!.

Now, if I could only get back time wasted on the phone, in a video link, etc...that didn't address the issue.  Oh, well that is a first world problem...

Thanks again!

That's puzzling. That remote should not need any programming to work with your DVR. Where did you get the remote? Was that HR22 working before with a different remote?

Yes.  The RC64R remote worked just fine.   I have asked DTV multiple times to send me that remote, but they keep sending me the RC66RX remote.  Very frustrating.   It is not an interference, dirty sensor, or other issue.
I have also noted there must be differences (firmware?)in the RC66RX remote as one of the new ones operates my HR24 receivers, but the other two remotes won't....

Of course, the original remotes that came with the HR24 receivers don't work with the HR22 receiver....

You may need to use the front panel buttons to return the HR22 to IR mode then reprogram it to RF if that is what you want.

I will give the suggestion a try tonight and advise if successful.  Thanks!

All those DirecTV receivers use the same IR code, so everything should work. My guess is that something has been set to RF instead of IR, either deliberately or accidentally.

Your HR24 may also be in RF mode, use the same procedure with the touch pad buttons to return it to IR mode.

No, I have an HR22 in RF mode as the IR sensor is wonky.

Right, as DTV remotes are already programed with the IR codes for the receivers only the TV IR codes need to be added.  Since DTV no longer supports the older receivers the scripts for them may no longer come up on the CSRs screens.

Thanks to all.  It is unfortunate that DirecTV over the past 10 years has essentially defaulted to "community" support.  This was a relatively easy issue to fix as we saw, but the CSR/Tech Support teams aren't equipped, even though there are a lot of older receivers out there that DirecTV still makes $$$ off of each month.....

As a tech executive and a long time DirecTV customer, along with both AT&T/DirecTV being a prior customer of mine, the disappointment is magnified...

Ideally, a Customer Service, or Customer Loyalty SVP/VP will see this thread and address.  But, based on my recent experience, I will most likely have to rely on old contacts to secure any attention.

This comment is not meant to blame the frontline CSRs/Support staff, but illuminate the poor results based on continual cutbacks in Support and more importantly, the ability to empower your representatives who are the "face" of DirectTV.
