How will 9 recievers be installed?
I just ordered Direct TV with the new Media Center DVR, 3 HD receivers, and one SD receiver. My understanding is that the media center comes with 5 tuners, and with the 4 other tuners I have ordered will make a total of 9 receivers. I have read that SWM only supports 8 tuners. Have I caused my self an issue with 9 tuners. I liked the idea of only one cabling coming into the house. Can anyone tell me how the installer will accommodate 9 receivers?

the installer will have to install a legacy LNB with four cables going to a SWM16 switch. the SWM16 switch has 2 outputs. Each output supports upto 8 tuners. the receivers will still operate with a single cable.

Does that mean there will be two wires going into the house instead of one?

There will be four cables from the dish to the SWM16 switch. It might be possible for the installer to install your SWM16 outside where the cables would enter your house. And yes, there would be two cables entering the house, one for each 8-tuner SWM branch.

correct. there could be four cables (recommended if possible) if the switch is inside your house or two if the switch is placed outside.

It will be wired thus: If using this setup and the multiswitch were outside, there would be a third cable enterning the house for the power inserter. Personally I'd run the 4 cables inside and put all the switches, splitters and power in a single convenient interior location.

Thanks this is exactly what I am looking for. You're picture was perfect. It looks like either way I am going to have 4 cables in the house. The only difference is a different multiswitch and 2- 8 port splitters instead of one. I have no power outside, so I assume he will run everything to the central location where all of my individual cable lines terminate. The Central location is 25" from the central wall, and it is unfinished basement.
What defines a "standard" installation for no charge? If it is 25" to the top of the roof, and 25' run inside the house? Or do they charge by cable foot, because with 4 cables to the center location that will be 200 ' of cable run (4x50). Would they charge for that.
If they actually charge by the cable foot. I could ask him to install the multiswitch at the wall when he enters the building and run only two cables to the splitters at the central location. As long as there is no distance limitations, that would only be 150' of cable.

all the cable needed to do your install is included at no cost. the real limitation is the system itself. DirecTV recommends no more than 150 ft., but I have seen it and done it with farther distances. you should be OK

Thanks, you have been real helpful to minimize any concerns I have had with the installation. I even moved up the installation and it is now scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. I am really looking forward to getting this installed and trying out the media receiver. This will eliminate the conflicts I have has with my daughter when we both wanted to record more than two things at once.
