HR21-100 takes several minutes to respond to remote commands.

My HR21-100 takes and extremely long time to respond to commands from the remote or console.   When I press my remote buttons my HD-DVR no longer responds or takes an execcive amount of time to resond.   Sometimes this may be up to 5-10 minutes.  I think the thing probably needs to be replaced.

First thing to try is resetting the Receiver/DVR using the red button behind the front panel access card door.

You may be suffering a high level of IR interference from your TV backlight or another source. Set up the receiver so the guide is displayed on the TV. Then unplug the TV from power. Use the up-arrow on the DirecTv remote to change the channel, see if the red light blinks on the DirecTv box. Power up the Tv again and see if the channel has changed. If it has, that's a sign the TV is interfering with the remote.

The best solution to the IR interference issue is to go to RF operation, go through the DVR setup menu and select "Remote", it will give you directions on how to do this.
