HR22-100 HD-DVR noise

I  just got a "refurbished" HR-22-100 DVR-HD replacement for my HR23-700 which died last sunday.

Last night after watching some programming I turned it off  and  place a BD in my Blu-Ray player and hear a noise from the HR-22-100 like a spinning hard drive or cooling fan ,is this noise normal even if the unit is off?

Also I am thinking to get an HR24-500 on my own ,should I go for it? Any suggestions. Thank you.

Some amount of fan and hard drive noise is normal. But it should be whisper quiet.

Personally I don't consider the HR24 to be much of an "upgrade" compared with the HR22.

I'd try for a replacement of the replacement before I'd spend $199 to get a HR24 (which could fail and you might get a HR22 to replace it).
