HR24 pause in signal causes monitor to drop off

I have a Directv HR24 HD DVR connected to a ViewSonic VX 2433WM monitor and every time I change channels on the HD DVR the momentary pause in the signal causes the monitor to switch from the HD DVR (HDMI) signal to my computer (DVI) signal. This is extremely annoying as it takes me about 8 seconds to toggle the monitor back to the HD DVR signal. Has anyone experienced this before? Any fixes?
