HR24 with Whole-Home and regular Internet connection
I just found out the hard way that you can NOT have a HR24 with the Whole-Home service and an Internet connection (on the back) at the same time.
Here's the story (and I'm sticking to it)... After a brief power outage, our DVRs came back up with no networked DVRs found. I searched the forums, to no avail, so we ended up calling D*. After an hour on the phone with really no help, I noticed that I had network setting for my home network. Now I did see something about that on the forum... So, I disconnected the network cable, restarted the box, and now I have Whole-Home again!!!
Overall, in someone's infinite wisdom, the ethernet connections over-rides the Whole-Home connection through the coax. Having dealt with the HR21 being able to do this with no problem, I ASSUMED that this could be done with the HR24. I ASSUMED incorrectly. Now we have tech coming out in a couple of weeks to get the Internet side hooked up to the Whole-Home properly...
I hope this will help someone else with similar problem.

The overide of the Ethernet port is intentional because the DECA network for WHDVR and your network are supposed to be kept separate, even if you have older receivers that require external DECA modules. The only connection between the two is supposed to be via a separate DECA module expressly for that purpose. The DECA network was never intended to carry other network traffic. If your installation uses DECA and doesn't have a separate DECA for the broadband connection, the the installation was not done properly in the first place.

The short of it is that if you have Whole Home, do not plug anything into any Ethernet ports except the jumpers that are integral to the DECA modules. Don't feel bad, this is happening wholesale. Installers are not connecting the Internet TV kit as they are supposed to and customers are popping a cable into an open port. The HR24 shut itself down but as you discovered, the other DVR's will not. However, using a Ethernet cable is not the proper way to connect.
