HR24-200 doesn't turn on

I have had this problem 3 times now. My DVR receiver sometimes doesn't turn on using the remote control. This happens intermittently but 3 times within the last week. the only way to turn on the receiver would be pressing the red RESET button on the receiver itself. The receiver then goes through the entire start-up process, checking receiver hardware, searching for satellites etc.

Does anyone else experience this? If yes, is there a permanent resolution?

steffen1601,

Doesn't sound good...... the HR24 may be dying a slow death. This could be a problem with the hard drive. I would do the built in self test on the hard drive first and see if you get any errors.

Run the Built in Self-test (BIST) to try and repair your hard drive. To run the hard drive checks, please follow these steps:

* Reboot DVR via red button inside card door.

* When you see "Running receiver self-check" press select

* You will see "Entering Diagnostics Mode..."

* Select Advanced Tests Menu -> Hard Drive utilities -> Short Smart test

You can also run the file test, and the DVR can sometimes repair a bad file report.

* If the other tests pass, run the surface test.Warning: This process could take several hours to complete. You may want to run it overnight.

The good news is that every attempt is made to save programming. This is less destructive than a reformat all and could provide you with a more stable system if you are having problems that appear to be related to the hard drive.

If you get errors that are unable to be corrected by BIST the HR24 most likely is toast and you should call for a replacement.

It's also possible this might be an IR interference issue, from the TVs backlight sensor. If the levels are too high, not only does it stop the remote working but the receiver can lock up because it is trying to process the "junk" coming from the TV.

Try setting your receiver and remote to RF operation and see if that solves the problem.
